During the 2014 Olympics, when the media came to town to watch the slalom in the gold medal favorite's hometown, they didn't head to Solaris or Slifer Square. No, the television crews visited Route 6 Cafe,
in Eagle-Vail, to watch hometown girl Mikaela Shiffrin -- then just 18 years old -- win the gold medal.

Shiffrin grew up in Eagle-Vail, credits Ski & Snowboard Club Vail with much of her early development as a ski racer, and still calls the small town between Vail and Beaver Creek home to this day. Her parents, Jeff and Eileen Shiffrin, are frequently seen on the sidelines when she's training at the world renowned slalom and giant slalom training grounds at Golden Peak in Vail, or racing in Beaver Creek like she did at the World Championships in 2015, winning gold once again.

In 2014, the town of Avon renamed one of their roads "Mikaela Way" in honor of the young superstar, who is frequently seen at the Westin Gym in Avon where she is a member. In the summers Shiffrin enjoys biking up the difficult climbing roads in Beaver Creek. In 2013, Shiffrin presented Colombian pro cyclist Janier Acevendo, the winner of USA Pro Cycling Challenge stage 4, which ended in Beaver Creek, a lifetime Vail Resorts ski pass.
