Our Top 5 Can't Miss Events at the 2017 GoPro Mountain Games

Posted by Jessica Milloy on May 23, 2017 10:35:24 AM

The GoPro games are a much-anticipated event here in Vail, signalling the end of mud season and the beginning of a fun-filled Vail Summer. There's no better way to kick off a season of fishing, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, slacklining, and more than watching the best of the best compete all around the village in a fun and festive atmosphere. The games also offer a plethora of events outside the competition, so there's something to do day or night. Here are our top 5 favorite events at this year's games to keep you psyched for the Summer.

1. Slacklining High Above the Gore

Don't get us wrong, the Slacklining Competition itself is one of the rowdiest and most fun events every year, with upbeat music, a call-and-response style competition, and high flying tricks, but for pure spectacle, the highline demonstration is not to be missed. Watching some of the best athletes in the world throwing tricks way off the ground over the rapids of Gore Creek while looking like they are out for a casual stroll is a definite don't miss event.

2. High-Flying Pups

For all-out fun, you can't miss any of the DockDogs competitions. Happy canines of all sorts compete for tennis balls and glory seeing who can jump the highest, the farthest, swim the fastest, and looks the most adorable leaping into the pool after their favorite toy. In addition to the spectator events, anyone (and dog) who is so inclined can participate in the K9 5K with their furry friend around Vail Mountain.

3. Get Your Om On

Take a moment to center yourself over in Ford Park during the games. With 10 different yoga classes available during the long weekend, there's something for every yogi. Tranquil and mellow classes, powerful and upbeat vinyasas, and even aerial classes and classes for kids are available. You won't want to miss the chance to practice in such a beautiful setting, with such amazing guest teachers.

4. Disco Disc-Golf

For a totally technicolor experience, make sure you sign up for Flashflight Disc Night, where you'll have the opportunity to play disc golf in the dark with LED discs from Nite Ize. This family-friendly and non-competitive event is certain to be both memorable, and instagrammable!

5. Concerts, Concerts, and More Concerts!

Kick of Vail's free concert season with 9 different free concerts over the course of the weekend. Taking place in the gorgeous Gerald R Ford Ampitheatre, the view should be as great as the tunes. We're most looking forward to Nahko and the Medicine People on Saturday night, but we definitely won't be missing local favorites, Bonfire Dub.

Our favorite place to stay is near Golden Peak for easy access to both the events in the Village and the concerts and activities in Ford Park.
