Three perfect ways for families to spend this weekend in Vail

September 29, 2015
Listen Now!
As Vail continues to prolong its summer offerings into the fall, you may have noticed that in 2015 summer actually extends into October! But this weekend (Oct. 2-4) marks your last opportunity to enjoy many of Vail's summer attractions, so plan your trip now to take advantage of these fun activities for the whole family.

Here's three suggestions for enjoying a perfect weekend in Vail:

Last call for gondola rides

Vail Mountain fires up the Lionshead gondola for one final weekend starting Friday, Oct. 2, 2015. The Eagle Bahn will run for scenic rides and bike hauls starting at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, offering access to Adventure Ridge atop the mountain, where activities abound. At Adventure Ridge, find activities for the whole family including the Zip Flyer zipline, a ropes challenge course, kids’ zip-line and kids' ropes challenge courses, top of the mountain 4x4 tours, a climbing wall, and guided hike and bike tours (reservations recommended). In addition, Gore Creek Mini Golf will be open at the base of Lionshead. Hiking to the top of the gondola and riding down is free, and dogs are allowed to ride down, as well. Some hiking will be affected due to continued construction on the new, 6-person Avanti Express Lift (#2). Guests are reminded to observe all posted signs and closures, and to check with resort staff for the most up-to-date trail information. Gondola One and Mid-Vail are closed for the season. The last ride down the Eagle Bahn is 6:30 p.m. Oct. 4, 2015. For more information about Vail Mountain, visit www.vail.com, stop by the Mountain Information Center in Lionshead, or call (970) SKI-VAIL (754-8245).

Final Farmer's Market for 2015

Drawing crowds from all corners of the state, the Vail Farmer's Market turns Meadow Drive into a grand bazaar every Sunday. What started as June-August event has now eclipsed the month of September to capture the extent of harvest season in the high country. Oct. 4 marks the last Vail Farmers' Market of 2015 and is sure to impress with over 100 vendor booths, live music, mechanical bull rides, bouncing castles, a magician, a caricature artist, fair foods, treats and lots of dogs to be pet. And, of course, there's the farmers -- enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables from farms all over the Western Slope, while the delicious smells of roasted peppers give you ideas and ingredients for home-cooked meals throughout the week. The final Vail Farmer's Market of 2015 runs from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Meadow Drive in Vail Oct. 4, 2015. For more information visit vailfarmersmarket.com/.

Restaurant Week wraps up

Vail's third-annual restaurant week runs every day through Oct. 4 of 2015, featuring a wide variety of prix fixe specials all set at $20.15. Restaurant week began in 2013 as a grass-roots effort by the local restaurant community in Vail and Beaver Creek. An immediate success, Restaurant Week became known as the one time of year where you can try out a variety new restaurants without breaking the bank. While its perfect for a date night or two, Restaurant Week also provides a very kid-friendly atmosphere at the local eateries. Here's five kids-friendly eateries in Vail and Beaver Creek which are participating in Restaurant Week 2015:
Big Bear Bistro Vail offers Restaurant Week specials for breakfast, lunch and happy hour, but the lunch offer is the one not to be missed as it comes with a souvenir canvas bag in addition to 2 deli sandwiches, and 2 bags of chips.
  • BOL Vail provides great experience for the whole family as kids can bowl while their parents enjoy a gourmet meal from the special menu featuring $20.15 dinners.
  • Sushi Oka & Hibachi have great Asian food and a magician-like performance from the chef, who cooks your dinner in front of you. During Restaurant Week try their $20.15 NY stake hibachi dinner.
  • Blue Moose Pizza in Vail and Beaver Creek offers any 15" Pizza and a pitcher of Coors Light or Soda for $20.15, and kids are provided with crayons and allowed to draw on the tables.
  • Kids loves cupcakes, but these days, it's their parents who are the true connoisseur. Mountain Cupcake in Vail offers the sweetest deal in town, half a dozen cupcakes for $20.15.
