Whether you’re in the mood for a simple burger, or a have a taste for seared halibut served with caramelized mushrooms and an herb-crusted tomato tart, local restaurateurs are dishing up treats that are as delectable as they are memorable. Many new high-end restaurants have recently opened their doors in this bustling mountain town, but a host of old standbys continue serving up savory fare.
For years, visitors and locals alike have flocked to tried-and-true favorites, such as Bart & Yetis, Los Amigos, Sweet Basil, and Red Lion. Many of us grew up dining in these restaurants, and it’s always a kick to return to the comforts of the tried and true. Now, a flurry of higher-end restaurants are making their way to the village and its environs, and the local restaurant scene has elevated to a new level of delicious. Local writer Bill Husted has a lot to say about food choices, and highlights the crème of the crop in his article exploring the great new gourmet fare in Vail.  But for more about the "tried and true" classics, read on...

It’s a Family Affair

Family friendly is what it’s all about in Vail. From traditional spaghetti topped with hearty meat sauce to everyone’s favorite burger and shake, kids are sure to smile in pure delight at the variety of offerings that come their way. After a great day spent hiking, biking or hitting the slopes, what better way to recharge than in a fun and festive atmosphere that caters to family occasions? From great pizza to sushi to juicy prime steak, great food options abound for even the most particular eaters. But that’s not all. If dessert is the order of the day, you won’t go wrong at one of the local ice cream shops, bakeries or cafes that nestle within the village streets.

Little Slice of Paradise
In the mood for a romantic dinner? Intimate settings, candle light and fantastic wine selections are yours for the asking at many establishments spanning Vail to Avon. Prices can range all over the board, so you may want to check out menu options before booking a reservation. But for those oh-so-special occasions, Vail’s elite restaurants simply cannot be topped when it comes to great food, excellent service and memorable ambience. You may recognize some of the newer establishments that hail from bigger venues such as New York, Los Angeles and Denver. One thing we know for sure: there’s much more to Vail than just great skiing. It’s a gourmet’s dream, and the options are limitless.
